Yet another order from me is not long back. This time for low band video 8 tapes to be digitised and, for the first time, one of the U-Matic masters I used my low band and Hi-8 camera tapes to produce. This usual excellent service with great communications. And the same well digitised video 8 tapes. As for the digitised U-Matic master tape - wow, truly excellent quality. I've watched it twice already, and even through I'm used to the excellent output from Alive Studios I am very, very pleased as to how well this digitised master tape plays.

Impressive 8mm Cine Restorations with Great Communication

I recently used Alive Studios to transfer and restore some 8mm Cine film, and overall, I am very pleased with the final result. Even with a few small suggested improvements below, the quality of the work is outstanding and I still rate them a full 5 stars.

What Worked Well:
• Excellent Communication: Kept up-to-date on progress throughout the process.
• High-Quality Output: The final result was very good. The "before and after" examples on their website show how impressive their AI enhancement is.
• Highly Professional: Great customer service throughout. I would use them again and recommend them.

Possible Areas for Improvement:
• Turnaround Estimates: Took longer than originally estimated. Not a major problem for me, but a more accurate quote upfront would be helpful.
• Return Packaging: Returns may need a little more protection. Returning items in the original box sent by the customer could easily solve this.
• Background AI Artifacts: The AI enhancement is generally brilliant, but it struggles with details further from the camera—particularly faces. On a larger screen, distant background faces can look a bit unnaturally smooth and plastic, as if over-processed by the software.
• Pricing: Quite expensive, but you are paying for a quality service.

Two more orders for digitising my low band video 8 tapes filmed in 1988 have been done and returned to me by Alive Studios since my last review. That and the fact I have another order ready to be sent to them should make it clear why I continue to award 5 stars for all aspects of the service that provide for me. Their service, from start to finish, has consistently met my needs for which I very much thanks them.

This company provide an amazing service. From first contact to getting your films back you are kept informed of every step. The staff are polite and very helpful, always happy to answer a question at any time, via email or phone. Quality of films is brilliant and it has saved some very important memories for my family. I can't recommend Alive Studios enough. If you have old cine films or videos get them transfered by this company. The prices meet the results every time. I will be using them again. Thanks for such a great service.

I've just sent my eleventh order this year down to Alive Studios after my tenth order arrived back. I find a commendable, high quaility consistency from the Studios about the whole process from start to finish. And that includes the all important resulting digitisations of my Hi-8 and low band video 8 camera tapes that I shot over 35 years ago.
